Welcome to

the Eastern Shore

We’re so glad you’re coming to Fairhope, a little town on the bluffs of Mobile Bay, with flower-lined streets, live oaks, and the best sunsets on the Gulf Coast.

A fair hope. Fairhope was founded in 1894 by a small band of idealists who came to the bay to build a “single tax” colony. The name stuck after one of them remarked that they had a fair hope of succeeding.

Sunset on the bay. The town faces west across Mobile Bay, so evenings here are golden. Walk out on the quarter-mile Municipal Pier, or listen for the bell at Sunset Pointe when the sun slips below the water.

Jubilee! On rare summer nights, crabs, shrimp, and flounder crowd into the shallows along the Eastern Shore, and cries of “Jubilee!” send neighbors running for their nets. It happens almost nowhere else on earth.
